NEWS FLASH! NEWS FLASH!

(This latest development is actually a refreshing break from the Steubenville scandal Evil or Very Mad -- which has almost made me want to puke, but has not surprised me in the least).

I had assumed that the Ray saga had come to an end, but I was wrong! Recent activity has been discovered at the old website! Surprised Earlier this evening I thought I would visit the old website just out of curiosity to see if there had been any activity since the last time I checked. Of course, I wasn't able to check the Guestbook because Ray has banned me from there. Crying or Very sad (I'll recover from this great blow in time. Wink ) I specifically wanted to check the "Letters 2013" column. No letters had appeared since the 3rd, which had been the date for the website's expiration; and I expected to see none. But, lo and behold, my eyes were greeted by the sight of not one, but two letters that had appeared in the letters column sometime since the 3rd! Surprised Laughing I was surprised because there was supposed to be no activity at the website because its expiration date had passed. At least that's what I had assumed would happen. Initially I had also assumed that there probably wouldn't be anything left of the old website.

Ray is the one who had been in charge of the letters column for each year; so, I'm assuming he was the one who chose to display those two letters. What in the world is Ray doing? Why is he doing this? confused scratch It doesn't make any sense. Why is he still running the letters column? Why didn't he just let the letters column die? By the way, have any messages been left in the Guestbook lately? Has Ray truly gone bonkers? (Yes, I believe he has. Twisted Evil )

Hey, Skul, do you have any insight as to Ray's latest episode? As Bill O'Reilly says, what say you?

NEWS FLASH! NEWS FLASH! The Ray Saga Continues! Bill-oreilly

By the way, for your reading pleasure I thought I would copy and paste the two letters that I referenced above; and here they are:

Sports Suck

Sports really fucking Suck, and the fan(atics) suck even more. This is coming from someone everyone would assume would love sports; a big tough construction worker who lives hard.

I do love sports, just the kind of sports one does to keep fit or which challenges oneself. There's nothing wrong with a game of softball on the weekends, throwing a Frisbee around, or any activity like that were a little fun competition is part.

I just HATE organized sports, professional sports, and especially collegiate sports.

Sports as we know them have no business in an environment supposedly geared for higher education. Sports has damaged the university system incredibly.

Look, I played football on a league championship high school football team. I never bonded with the guys the way most of them bonded with each other. I left the school where I played football because there would be no way for me to escape having to play football and being around those lame-ass closet homos any other way.

I loved riding my bike, skateboarding, and surfing---for pleasure only. I never clicked in with any of the competitive nonsense, other than competing against myself to become better at my pleasures..

Not to offend anyone reading who may be gay, it's just that I am not. I can tell you that some serious homosexual behaviors were going on with some players, especially in the showers after practice or games. I refused to shower with those weirdos. I didn't understand the homo touching or staring at each others nude bodies. I could care less what they were but to everyone at the school they were anti-homosexual tough guys.--yeah, sure they were. I guess judging by what I saw, if half of men aren't gay, they must be heavily bi-curious.

That all explains why so many of them enjoy watching men in tights running around playing with balls. I guess this is a safe way for them to partake in their fantasies through voyeurism, hiding their true loves from their friends--who also are probably doing the same.

Anyway, all that aside, I know that sports has damaged society in many ways. This sports culture is idiotic and a total waste of life. If it weren't for this looney love of sports I wonder how much further mankind could have advanced?

Then again, this fascination of sports is just part of the evolutionary psychology of man. Men have always engaged in practice warfare, but as where with becoming adept at fencing in the 14th century may have saved your life in the mean streets of Europe, gobbling triple cheese pepperoni pizzas chased down with gallons of beer is just preparing you for a lazy chair--rending you both worthless and weak. Thanks to the media and their promotion of the endless cycle of professional sports they have multiplied the problem by thousands.

I hate Sports...

Hello Everyone!

I have another reason to hate sports! I put in a friend request while on FaceBook and was denied by the person because I told her I didn't like sports! She said that I was unamerican because I didn't like the NFL! She asked me why I didn't like the NFL and I told her that athletes make too much money and all they do is cry about not getting an extra million! She put in capital letters..."You lose! TTYL Bitch!" I calmly said; "Awe...and we were so close to being friends and now I'm devastated...NOT!" Personally, I'm glad that she didn't friend me! Closed minded people aren't worth my time!

Thanks for having this site! I feel at home here!

Sincerely;
Wayne White

Talk about frustration! Here are two guys who possibly would want to post in our new forum here if they only knew about it, but I'm sure Ray would not allow me to post a link to it. In fact, he wouldn't display any message I sent to him as the one in charge of the letters column. I'm wondering how long Ray will display letters in the current column. I just can't figure him out! I, too, noticed those letters a while back. I have no idea at all what's going on. He's randomly stopped talking to us, deleted the forum, and continues to update the website. confused Make sense, gosh darn it!

There is what appears to be a new post in the guestbook, although there are no dates on them so I don't know for sure. I think new guestbook messages are allowed, because the option to post a new message is still available to me, even though I imagine Ray would delete any new messages from me. I'm surprised that he hasn't banned me from the guestbook yet, as he did with Earl.

I don't know what to make of this whole Ray Saga, it's getting stranger and stranger by the day.

I suppose the only thing I can do is dedicate this song to Ray:

May I also dedicate a song to our beloved friend, Ray? (All the lyrics aren't exactly fitting, but the chorus more or less describes my feelings.)

It's kind of an oxymoron, to be honest — it says NO AVATAR, yet you kind of do have one. I didn't put much thought into that when creating it, did I? Razz

But yeah, if you really want Derpy as an avatar, there are plenty of pictures for use as an avatar out there. You may want to turn on safe search, though; despite the message of the show, it's still not an exception to Rule 34 (Rules of the Internet).

Rule 34: There is porn of it. No exceptions.
Rule 35: The exception to rule #34 is the citation of rule #34./If no porn is found at the moment, it will be made.

Post by Earl Tue Jan 15, 2013 10:16 am

Another interesting development in the Ray saga: I just checked the "Letters 2013" column at the old website. A third message is now displayed, this one from a sports bore. Until all the trouble started with Ray, messages from abusive or critical sports fans in the letters columns were displayed in blue print. This latest message from a sports bore is not displayed in that fashion.

What in the world is going on here? confused Is Ray still managing the letters column, or are messages being displayed automatically as visitors to the column submit them? Now, there are two ways to send messages to the letters column, one of which is to e-mail it to secretary@sportssuck.org. Is the other way, whose submitting procedure I don't know how to finish, automatic; whereas, the e-mail way has to be overseen by someone for it to work?

I'm going to e-mail a response to the sports bore (signed simply as "A former member") and check the letters column in the following few days to see if it will be displayed.

What is going on here?

P.S. For your reading pleasure (if you could call it that), I have copied and pasted the sports bore's message in the "Letters 2013" column, and have followed that up with my response.

Sports bore wrote:14 Jan 13

Subject: SPORTS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello,
As you can see, I've disguised the subject line, to say sports suck. my true opinion, is that sports are one of the greatest things invented by man. They get you fit, they provide entertainment, and they bring countries together in events such as the olympics and world cup, providing a sense of national pride. Some people have said that organized sports take it a little too far, and are too competitive, and while this may be true in some instances, it certainly is not the case every time. A little competition is healthy. It motivates people to do well in life, not just in sports. If you're still not believing me at my last comment there, think of it this way. There's probably just as much competition when you go for a job interview as their is in any organized sport. If you do not know how to handle competition and/or intense pressure, you will crack, and not get the job. As I've just demonstrated, sports can give an edge in the work world, but they can also do so much more.

Sports can also bring people closer together. This is true in events like the olympics and world cup, when the entire country, in many cases, the world, comes together for those two or so weeks. This, however, can also happen on a much smaller scale. The competition mentioned above, that occurs in many sports can get people to work together as a team, and bond. Actually, I've met many of my good friends from sports teams.

Finally, and probably the most important thing about sports, is that keeps you fit. Fitness is an essential part of life, no matter if you are a competitive, pro athlete, or just somebody who goes jogging on the weekends, and I'm sure that everyone, no matter who they are, or what physical ability they have, can agree on this.

So, sports haters, I hope you've managed to get through my short rant. i will now end off on a quote from one of my favourriate sports coaches. "Quit you're whining, and get out there!"

Really, unless you have a debilitating disease, that prevents you from doing any physical movement at all, you can participate in sports/physical exercise. So what if you were bullied in high school because you sucked at sports, or were called a nerd because you couldn't make the football team. SO F***'n What??????? Just move on, and try it those days are long gone.

Good bye and good day.

Subject: Response to TPR fan

My response is undoubtedly a waste of time, as TPR fan has implied that he will not check this column to see if anyone responds to him. But just the same, here is my response:

I am a former member of this website. Your message is not quite as abusive as others I’ve read in past letters columns, but still leaves much to be desired.

You shouldn’t assume that all supporters of a website have exactly the same views. For example, I don’t happen to agree with the “DEDICATED TO THE ERADICATION OF SPORTS” logo or the add-on “AND THE IMPRISONMENT OF SPORTS FANS” on the home page. Literally taken, they’re ridiculous. But aren't you familiar with the concept of hype?

That being said, there is a very real sense in which I’m not a sports hater. I have never denigrated anyone for participating in a sport, as you undoubtedly denigrate nonathletes. There are legitimate objections to the negative aspects of the culture associated with school sports. (I have nothing critical to say about sports such as boxing and athletic events such as the Olympics, and the reason why is because they have nothing to do with school life.) Witness Penn State and Steubenville, Ohio. Even individual former athletes would agree. Witness Joe Ehrmann and others.

You seek to impose your personal preference upon others, which reveals an attitude of intolerance on your part. You clearly have no respect for anyone who has no interest in sports, yet you expect everyone to respect you as an athlete. A bit hypocritical on your part, I’d say. Besides, buddy, respect is a two-way street.

Your equating sports with physical fitness falls flat on its face. (By the way, did you even see the first letter of this column? I guess not.) Top levels of physical fitness can be achieved without participating in any sport, not to mention the fact that some sports clearly involve health risks. (Perhaps years from now you will personally become acquainted with this unpleasant fact, as a friend of mine did who had played football at the university where he earned his degree in sociology.) As a medical doctor once wrote in a syndicated advice column several decades ago, the human body wasn’t designed to play football.

Before you stereotype me (as you no doubt anyone else who has no interest in sports) as being sedentary, I shall inform you that I’ve spent a small fortune at a local health club on a succession of personal trainers on a bodybuilding program. (Incidentally, each of the previous trainers ended up resigning from their jobs at the health club because of career changes.) When I placed membership at the health club, I weighed about 167 pounds. I now weigh 200 pounds and have muscular development in my early sixties that I never had when I was young -- no thanks to the mandatory sports-exclusive P.E. of my youth, a class that was useless to nonathletic boys because no genuine fitness programs were ever provided.

Your apparent lack of willingness to engage anyone on the other side in any sort of an exchange seems to indicate an intellectual cowardice on your part. Your “argument” has failed.

Concerning your callous comments about bullying, you don’t win any points. You only make yourself look bad. (Perhaps you’ve been a bully yourself? I wouldn't be surprised.) Again, you lose.

I have often wondered why individuals such as yourself spend time leaving comments such as yours in an online forum such as this letters column, instead of just shrugging your shoulders and not bothering people who have a viewpoint that is different from your own. (For example, I detest racism; but I don’t waste my time visiting racist websites.) Insecurity on your part, perhaps?

I noticed that update yesterday. As for the colour, it could be that Ray has just forgotten to do that. He'll maybe rectify it at some point, but that letter just screams of cowardice and intolerance. He also seems to believe that he needed to "disguise" his subject line. Clearly, he never looked at any of the other letters, otherwise, he would have known he didn't need to fake his way in.

Earl wrote:What in the world is going on here? confused Is Ray still managing the letters column, or are messages being displayed automatically as visitors to the column submit them? Ray will have paid to extend the website, so he'll still be overseeing the running of it. The Letters columns will need to be manually updated, as it's just a simple HTML page, unlike the Guestbook, which uses a script to allow automatic updating of that page (like online forums, only with vastly less features). The pages will likely be on Ray's hard drive, which he'll change/update and then upload to the webhost.

Earl wrote:I'm going to e-mail a response to the sports bore (signed simply as "A former member") and check the letters column in the following few days to see if it will be displayed.

Ray's abandoned the forum and the members, but is still running the site. The way he's been acting, he's sending two messages. One is that he's still anti-sports, the other is that, for some unknown reason, he seems to hate us. Even me and you, Earl, the people who he seemed closest to on the site, have been pushed aside and ignored.

EDIT: It seems the site my random avatars were hosted on has expired. I don't know if it will be put back up, but right now, have a look — it's looks something like what sportssuck.org would look like if the name had expired.

Perhaps Ray still wants a place where he can shake his fist in the air and shout “I hate sports!”, but he doesn’t want to be associated with any discussions or debates with athletes or fans. So, he removed the forum but kept the letter column because it’s easier to control letter columns than it is to control forums. This way he can still print letters that talk about how wonderful the website is and letters from stupid sports bores that show how stupid they are, but he doesn’t have to deal with any of those messy discussions that might go in any direction.

Having said that, I keep wondering if there’s any significance to the fact that Ray waited until Skul had said the new forum was up and running before he eliminated the old forum. But even if (while keeping himself away from all discussion) he was trying to make sure that there was still a discussion somewhere on the Internet, it doesn’t change the fact that he was incredibly rude to both Skul and Earl. Perhaps he is just another example of “a little boy in a man’s body.”

NEWS FLASH! NEWS FLASH! The Ray Saga Continues! Empty Re: NEWS FLASH! NEWS FLASH! The Ray Saga Continues!

Post by Earl Wed Jan 16, 2013 6:48 pm

Well, here's the latest of Ray's doings in the "Letters 2013" column: Another message has appeared, this one refuting the intolerant sports bore. A teenage boy who signs off as "Tim" is the author of this latest message. As far as I know, he never registered to become a member of the old forum, but has been a regular contributor in the letters columns.

Significantly enough, Ray apparently approved Tim's message, but did not approve mine -- even though I signed off as "A former member" instead of "Earl" and even though I also did a good job of refuting the sports bore in my message. In the good old days before Ray went bonkers, he would have approved both my message and Tim's. This proves that Ray wants to silence us in one forum or another.

Now I'm wondering if Ray wants to "starve" this new forum that was set up by Skul so that it will eventually fail and die. I know nothing about how online copyrights work, but I'm wondering if Ray might try to prevent Skul from eventually setting up more webpages to go with this forum so it will become a full website.

Ironically enough, Ray (whose attitude regarding the presence of civil sports fans in the old forum was more extreme than that of members such as myself) has turned out to be a greater enemy than Samdaman Mad to the very idea that there should be an online forum where so-called "sports haters" can express themselves freely and communicate with other like-minded people. I would like to encourage Tim, as I've done on previous occasions; but now I'm no longer able to do that because Ray won't allow any of my messages to be displayed in the letters column. So, I'm effectively banned there as well. This is not about me and my feelings. In fact, Ray's pettiness makes me laugh. What bothers me is that he now serves as an impediment to online communication among people who have a problem with the sports crowd. Ray is actually fulfilling Samdaman's Mad goal. At least in part.

Ray's capricious actions continue to mystify me. (Not to mention the rest of us!) There is an element of illogic here that disturbs me; and that is, Ray's refusal to communicate. When someone gets mad at someone else, he usually tells the other person why he's mad at him. It's human nature. If Ray were mad at any one of us, I'd think he would let us know; but he has chosen to keep silent. It just doesn't make any sense. My personal opinion? He's either mentally ill, or he's playing around with us for the pleasure of it. Anyway, he reveals himself to be a jerk.

Ray should be grateful we have scruples. I happen to know Ray's full name in real life, his e-mail address, and his Facebook account. Since I had access to his Facebook "wall" while I was still a "Friend," I saw pictures of him and know what he looks like. I also know the city of his residence. I also know that Samdaman's Mad e-mail address is provided at the Sporting News website. I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I could cause Ray some real aggravation. If I were a jerk instead of someone trying to be a faithful Christian, I would contact Samdaman Mad by e-mail and give him all this info. But that is something I would never do. I would never even give any of this info to members of this new forum. So, even though he has been dishonorable himself, Ray is counting on us being honorable. Well, he has nothing to worry about in that regard. But it does show how much of a jerk he has become.

A thought has just occurred to me: Ray has become our new Samdaman. Smile

Ray is what may be known as The Mole. Or more specifically, The Mole In Charge. Or perhaps Big Bad Friend (an actual friend who is nevertheless a villain).

I suppose Samdaman, under his Yo_Joe alias, could also qualify for The Mole at that point.

In short, The Mole is a bad guy who pretends to be a good guy. The audience assumes they are a good guy until the sudden revelation. If well-done, catches the audience out.

Well, the sudden revelation is Ray deleted the forum while keeping the site running and that caught everyone out!

All great things have a nemesis/rival, it's common within history and fiction. Holmes had Moriarty. The US had the USSR. Robin Hood had the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Say what you will about Samdaman, at least he was honest when he was found out. Ray has been very sly.

You have a point, ThinWhiteDuke. Samdaman never concealed his animosity, although he did attempt to deceive the moderators and admins with a second account. What has infuriated me the most about Ray is that he has not even contacted Skul a single time to inform him as to the reason(s) why he has deleted his Admin profile, wiped out the old forum, but continued the letters column for the year. I had even considered Ray to be a personal friend of mine because we had communicated extensively via e-mails and PMs. Early on I gave him my home phone number, my cell phone number, and my regular mailing address; but he declined to give me a phone number, saying (in an e-mail) that he was afraid I'd just find him to be boring. I've had two major disappointments concerning former members of this website: First, i_like_1981 (who is one of the most decent persons I've ever met online) dropping out of sight, so to speak (even to the extent of changing his e-mail address so I'll never be able to write to him again unless he chooses to contact me); and, of course, Ray, whom I had considered to be a friend.

By the way, the strangeness continues . . . Another message has appeared in the "Letters 2013" column. I'm wondering how long the letters column will be active. (Since I've been banned by Ray from the Guestbook, I have no idea what's going on there.) I'm not able to figure out Ray's motivation. Beats me! Neutral Sad Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad confused

I'm delighted to see that Dr. Robotnik himself has expressed a sympathetic interest in our perplexity. Smile

Sadly, I don't think ever know why. I can't help but think of Coleridge's commentary about Iago-'the motive-hunting of motiveless malignity.' Seems rather fitting.

Shame we can't rationalise it like Heretic's science posts.

Hello guys, how have you been? based on the behavior I think someone hijacked the website and deleted ray's profile. and the letters could be adding themselves automatically.

Hi, Weltall.

Nobody's hijacked the website. Ray's behaviour makes it clear that he's the one behind it all. He won't respond to me or Earl, he's blocked Earl on Facebook and banned him from the guestbook. And if the letters were being posted automatically, Earl's letter would be displayed. However, to add things automatically, you'd need a script like the guestbook has. As it is, you send an e-mail to a certain address and Ray adds it on his own.

Hi, Weltall! Smile I'm glad you've joined us. Smile

I don't know how much you know about this mess from what any of us has said online; but it all started when I informed Skul that the old website had an expiration date, one that was less than two months away. I had found this bit of information by doing a random Google search on the name of the old website. One of the listed links accessed a page at another website that gave a lot of info and stats about the old website. Of course, what really caught my attention was the expiration date. I did not send an e-mail to Ray to ask him what he was going to do about it, but instead sent a PM to Skul. He replied to my PM and told me he would contact Ray to ask him; and within the hour Ray logged in under "secretary," a username used by both Skul and Ray as the Admins, and deleted his Admin profile, which had the effect of automatically deleting all of his posts in the forum.

As I've already said, none of this makes any sense. The website should have died on the third day of this month. Why would Ray want to continue supporting a website that he himself has crippled? Why didn't he just let the old website die and be done with it? Why has he not communicated with Skul? I mean not a single e-mail or PM from him -- nothing. This is the most puzzling online behavior I've ever seen.

Wait! There's more! I just tried to visit the old website to see if any new message(s) had been posted in the "Letters 2013" column since the last time I looked (which was yesterday). Either the website has finally died (after a grace period, perhaps?); or I've been banned from the entire website! I tried several times, one time by making a Google search on "sportssuck" and clicking on the appropriate link; and each time the following brief message has been displayed:

403 Permission Denied

You do not have permission for this request /

Does this mean Ray banned me from the entire website? When you think it's finally over, Ray does something new! As I said in my post immediately above, this is the most puzzling online behavior I've ever seen. Ray has managed to make himself look both irrational and vindictive. This all gives me a bit of a chuckle, but I hope this will be the end of it all.

P.S. I clicked on the URLs of the old website's homepage and the letters menu, but permission was denied at both webpages.

You can't ban someone from a website unless they have an account on it, but even then, you just wouldn't be able to log in, so it's not that. And the website hasn't died, so I think it was just a hiccup on the site's server. Shortly before the forum went down, I tried to go to the website and got an error message, too. I tried again a few minutes later and was able to get on. I was glad, as I hadn't backed up all of the pages yet. Try visiting the site again. Oh, and there's yet another letter posted. They're coming in thick and fast, aren't they?

I have several times. I have just now made yet another attempt -- actually, several attempts in which I've typed in the URLs for the home page, the letters menu, and the "Letters 2013" column. But no go. The old family PC has both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox; so, I've tried both. The result has been the same: Permission Denied. Merely a coincidence, perhaps? Not that it's a big deal. It's just . . . curious.

As you probably know, Heretic lives in my state. I could ask him to give it a try.
