Could this British classic possibly be an anti-sports film?
I last saw it on TV in the winter of 1970.
Be forewarned: It's a bleak tale.

Re: Could this British classic possibly be an anti-sports film?
Good afternoon Earl:
I have just finished watching the movie.
Yeah, I like these old Black & White British films. The really sad part was when his wife died from a brain hemorrhage.
WOW! This guy was a real douche-bag! Arrogant and conceited, he really thought highly of himself.
Yeah! He really liked to blow his own horn, but in the end he got his horn shoved up his ass!
Well, he can just pull it out again and suck on it!

I'll have to watch it again (after all these decades) when I'm not already depressed! It's been a very long time since I last saw it -- well, actually, when I saw it for the first and only time.
The death of the wife was very sad. I did warn you (and all the other readers -- few, though, they may be) that the movie is bleak.
Richard Harris' character reminded me of a corrupt politician or a gangster as he climbed his way to the top, only to discover it wasn't like he thought it would be.
Aw, we need a "picker upper" after such a sad movie! So, here's a You Tube music video presentation of the famous (infamous?) Richard Harris 1968 hit "MacArthur Park," courtesy of little ol' me! Actually, I must confess that I do like the song.
